How and when you got into the trade?
After school I went straight into a Fine Art BA course and found it just wasn’t hands on enough for me. I dropped out after only one semester and applied for every job there was going - the job I happened to get was at an old jewellers’ in the town I lived. The owner had been taught fine jewellery in the 1950s in Hatton Garden so had some amazing stories and technical knowledge, and I just fell head over heels with the industry at 18!
Where do you take your inspiration from?
The diamonds and the gemstones that I work with - mostly because I always pick the unusual ones. The cuts, tones and shapes are all totally unique and it means that each stone needs their own striking design. I love working hands on with the stone(s) and the metal, rather than sketching first, so it’s always fun to see where an initial design idea ends up in reality.

What was the most memorable piece that you made?
One of the first diamonds I bought from Misfit diamonds was a 2.5ct salt and pepper brilliant cut. I couldn’t really afford it at the time and I certainly didn’t know if I had any clients who’d be after a 2.5ct diamond but I loved it and it ended up sitting in the safe for a few years because I couldn’t decide what to do with it! Then lockdown struck and I had a simple but quite striking design idea and it evolved over a few weeks into the Cut ring design and to my joy a customer snapped the finished ring up within a few weeks of seeing it on instagram!
Why do you enjoy working with Misfit diamonds?
Not only are they a great team to work with but their inventory is always so interesting and unique - the quality is there as well as the interesting material and cuts that I know my clients love. Ethics and responsibility is also huge to Ellie Air and so their new Canadian from mine-to-market diamonds are not only an amazing feat but wonderful to see that change happening in the industry, and hope it inspires others to focus on that, too.
